Dry Tortugas / Announcement

Hi Folks,

Were doing a big cruise this year to the Dry Tortugas. Several have expressed strong interest: The Rachel, Hakuna Matata, Pilot Me, Panache, and Celebration. Thats a pretty good start. The schedule youre going to see below is flexible. The trip has been done by some in half the time that were taking. However, its been set up mostly for day sailing and night sleeping. The exceptions are the long legs which are aimed at getting boats and people in and out of passes and marinas during daylight hours.

The rate or speed used in estimating the crossings is conservative at 5 knots. Often times currents and winds help keep boats well above this speed. Remember, an increase of 1 knot, will decrease the time estimate by 20%.

Passengers will have ample opportunity to catch up to the cruisers in many locations. Take for example: Some members might have a limited amount of time and so may wish to do something creative like drive to Ft. Myers and then take the Fast Cat to Key West. Or, take another Fast Cat from Key West to the Dry Tortugas for a different leg of the trip. Or spend a day or 2 aboard in Cayo Costa. Use your creativity and find a way to join us for all, or any part of the trip that suites your fancy, or your fancy schedule.

I would like to recommend that on the over-night passages between Marco Island to Key West, and the Dry Tortugas to Marco Island, that there should be at least 3 crew aboard to help keep the watch during the night.

Theres plenty of lead time to make plans. A trip like this comes to some only once in a great while, or even once in a lifetime. Please feel free to register with me via email, or a sign up sheet that I will post at the club.

Whenever my mom uses her iPhone and downloads anything, it brings up my email when she has to put in the password. My computer has been REALLY slow lately. Both the internet and the desktop are annoyingly slow. It's a PC and it's not new, but I'm not sure how old it is. We've had it for 3 years and before that, my aunt had for at least 4 years. I defragment it and do the disk cleanup regularly. And it has a lot of free memory left (it's like 75% of the computer's total memory is free). I have an up-to-date anti-virus program on it (BitDefender), and it runs scans on it, and has NEVER found a virus. All of the fire-walls are up and running. What could be wrong with my computer?? My laptop also has itunes. But the home computer is almost 7 years old. We think it runs so slowly b/c it has so much junk clogging up the hard drive. But it is possible it could have a virus that my parents don't know about. If I put the CDs onto my laptop, could it get infected with a virus?

I have been running the free version of AVG for years but it has been causing problems with Internet Explorer 8. I solved it by replacing my AVG with BT Net Protect but now my father is having the same problem and his ISP doesn't provide any security software. I want to uninstall AVG from his PC but I'm not sure what to replace it with. Does anyone have any experience of other free anti-virus software that they can recommend? Many thanks.
